Toscana IGT Sangiovese "Lo Scudiere" Fabio Mottola
The name "the squire" is a tribute to the well-known "knight" of Michele Satta, of which I am a disciple. But it is not only due to a debt of gratitude that I have made this choice but due to my conviction, gained through experience. Sangiovese has its own expression of great value, even in Bolgheri. The cool summers, the strong temperature variations, manage to give grapes of remarkable finesse. In maceration I use a portion of non-stemmed grapes, which varies according to the vintage.
After working with Sangiovese for ten years, I finally decided to produce one in purity. For too long I had unjustly relegated this wine to a marginal role in my production. It is not only the vine of the Tuscan tradition, but it is also the most difficult and, at the same time, most exciting grape.
The name pays homage to its most illustrious predecessor, the pioneer of Sangiovese in Bolgheri, the Cavaliere di Michele Satta, to whom I will always be grateful.
