Grumello - from the Latin “grumus”, meaning hillock, hill: “grum” in the Valtellina dialect - is one of the four sub-areas of the DOCG Valtellina Superiore: 71 hectares north of Sondrio. Here Casa Negri directly manages some famous crus: Vigna Lunga, Sassorosso, Sassina.
The area takes its name from the castle of Grumello, built by the De Piro family, lords of Sondrio between the 13th and 14th centuries. The production of Grumello Negri began in 1945.
